Recipes using our herb garden!

The two ingredients that i would enjoy doing would have to be sword fish tacos, you don't have to use sword fish any kind of fresh fish would work. Also just plan home made guacamole

This is for a serving of 6 people
2 tomatoes, seeded and diced, plus 1/2 cup chopped
3 green (spring) onions, thinly sliced
4 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 teaspoon grated lime zest
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
4 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro (fresh coriander)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 small head romaine (cos) lettuce, thinly sliced (about 3 cups)
1 cup coarsely grated radishes
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
12 small corn tortillas
1 3/4 pounds swordfish steaks or fillets, cut into 1-inch cubes

2 ripe avocados
½ red onion, minced (about 1/2 cup)
1-2 serrano chiles, stems and seeds removed, minced
2 tablespoons cilantro leaves, finely chopped
1 tablespoon of fresh lime or lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon coarse salt
A dash of freshly grated black pepper

"10 ideas that are changing the world right now"

Ecological intelligence is not only buying "Green" products, but really taking the time to realize if it is truly a green object and helping the envoirment. I believe that this article ties in with our Essential questions because, going Green isn't just saying or supporting the idea of saving our envoirment. This article shows plenty examples of how americans say they are living sustainable, however they aren't aware enough to know that what they are doing isn't helping. Honestly my ecological intelligence is very low, however it is higher than when we first started this project. I know that i have recycled many objects not knowing that they aren't recyclable!

Dervaes family

1. When Charlotte first put in the video, i honestly didn't think it was going to be that interesting. However once it started playing i was immediately engaged. The video really made me want to go home and grow a garden, i was really impressed how they not only grew a garden but EVERYTHING they did was living substantially

2. On my needs vs. wants sheet, the wants list was extremely long and pretty selfish if you ask me, however i think that the Devares family's want side would consist of just making sure their family is safe and that they have their garden in their house.

3. When we were first introduced to the idea of living subsabilly i thought it would be impossible for someone to transform their whole entire life, to safe our envoirment, this video tied in perfectly with the book Ishmal, because he was using metaphors to show julie what living subsabily ment, and here we have a real life example.

4. Right after watching this video, i told my dad that i wanted him to grow an epic garden again, i really respect on how much they transformed their house and their whole entire life. I think what they are doing is very honorable, and it shows how you can help out our environment and still live an amazing life.

My Ishmael #1

1. The first rule Ishmael has for identifying if someone is from your culture is whether or not you have your food under lock and key or not. The idea of having your food owned to Ishmael is very important and with out it people would not work. His second rule is that people in "your culture" feel that their whole entire race is completely flawed and fey. I agree because, constantly in the media and basically everywhere in our planet you are hearing how we need to change immediately and if we don't than our planet will slowly die.

2. Mother culture is the ideal mother that thrives through everyones mind, mothers imply what they know on their children. This is causing everyone to act similar and think similar in certain ways. I agree with Ishmael when he says that humans expect everything to be hard and over analyze everything, even the simple things (32), this flaw is commonly found in between humans.

3.  The metaphor used with the tunes and dancers to me is being compared to american society today. Going back to the fact that we over analyze everything, doing this we think we need to buy so much more than we need this leaves us no free time because we are constantly working to pay off for everything we buy. Compared to the hunters and gathers before agriculture, they only worked for a small portion for the day to get just the right amount of food that they need.

Sustainability in our Society!

what does it mean to live sustainably?

Personally i think living sustainably means living a appropriate balanced happy life. Simple things like working out, recycling, helping not only others but yourself and trying to learn new things to the fullest extent can make you have a sustainable life. I know it sounds easy but their are also other things that us teens don't yet have to worry about like holding a steady job and supporting you and your family as well.

How much freedom and independence do you have as a 14-16 year old in our society?

I wish i could say more, however we have very little in our society. Other teens could say more, it honestly varies by family. Freedom is all based by trust for example i tell my dad everything and he knows i am responsible enough to drive and that is why he is letting me have my license. In the bigger picture, the government excludes us from almost all rights. For example, voting, drinking, gambling, smoking, and almost everything. On the other hand i think there is a very good reason for this, the government is trying to help us have a stable and strong childhood that can make us grow into responsible adults that can be more cautious of the decisions we make.

As a 14-16 year old, how can you currently live your life more sustainably?

Even the government looks at us like our voice doesn't matter, we are lucky enough to go to a school and live in an enviorment were everyone can voice their opion. Doing this we can start to live our like more sustainably, in addition to this we can be more aware of the careless decisions we make daily. For example, driving to school when you live a few blocks away. Staying inside when its nearly 80 degrees, and even aiming for the blue bin instead of the black. Decisions like this can lead to a healthy life that we later on can live without the parents or the government on our back! :)

This semester goals

1. At the start of the semester I took being a freshmen again not as seriously as i should of. For example i thought everything was going to be easy since it was my second year, however half way through the semester i realized that it was going to take more than me doing my homework at the last minute or if all. Now at a new start i am determined to get all A's but also to understand everything i am doing to be the student i know i can be.

2.I think the public speaking and writing tools that are given to us in humanities class are the most important. I believe this because i know that are going to many situations later in life where public speaking determine whether you get what your trying to get. Also, using proper grammar, spelling and basic creative writing skills can get you a lot of places in life.

3. One thing i would like to improve on this semester is turing in my homework and when i don't understand something i stay in office hours, also i want to have weekly check in with my teachers to make sure I'm on task and doing the best i can be doing.

4. If there was one topic that i could study it would be the changes that have been happening in the world every decade i know it is kind of off topic but i just think its interesting how no one noticed before where were heading and what we are turing our home into, seeing what were the "best" and "worst" moments of each decade would be interesting to me to see what we could of done differently. random i know, hahaha.

Grateful

There are many things i am gratfull for, my famliy, friends, teachers, the food on my plate and the roof above my head. However i wouldn't have anything i have no if it weren't for my parents, unlike most people i am blessed with three parents who have always been there for me since day one.

My dad has always been there for me, he can always tell when i am sad or in bad mood and is always the first person to put me in a better mood. Even though he doesn't have as much money as he wants he doesn't need money for me to love him. He is the most perfect dad in the world and i have no idea what i would do without him, i thank god every day to be blessed with the dad of most kids dreams. He is my support system, comedian and most of all my best friend.

My mom has a personality that is hard for most to comprehend, she works 7 days awake and does everything to make my brother and I as happy as possible. She is a women that should be everyones role model. She has traveled all over the world, speaks 7 different laungunges and started her own business just after a year of living and being in america for the first time. She is the reason why i have created such a hopeful future for myself and she reminds my everyday to never give up.

Lastly, i have a Peg. She isn't just a neighbor or a family friend she is a women who has made me who i am today. Day in and out she gives me advice for everything you can think of, she is the reason why i am blessed to go to such an amazing school. She has welcomed to her family with open arms from the begging and is always looking out for my best interest and without her my life would change and nothing would be the same.

I am a very lucky girl to have such amazing people in my life i have the perfect family who pushes me to strive on. Amazing friends who i trust with my whole heart and great teachers who try their hardest to help me to my best. I couldn't ask for anything more!
